StreetCare is a student-led social initiative that focuses on promoting the well-being of species of displaced cats and dogs in need of urgent shelter through community-centric systems where we focus on early identification of animals in need, ensuring timely rescue, feeding, medical attention, and improving their chances of safe rehabilitation and adoption.
Along with working with local animal welfare organizations and student volunteers to enable effective animal tracking, feeding, medical assistance, and adoption, we also work towards further streamlining tracking of stray animals by designing cost-effective digital collars, much like the chipping system, with unique identification tags consisting of QR codes to link information on vaccination and spaying statuses of each animal, which helps first-time adopters with the know-how on how to raise animals, as well as a brief history of the stray animal.
One of the ways we address the lack of awareness around animal emergency care is by developing a comprehensive digital guide and a documentary series for schools and community centers, which aid residents with practical knowledge to assist strays safely and compassionately.
We believe that the key to solving the stray animal crisis in India is to create a robust network of youth volunteers, and therefore, StreetCare works towards creating a student-led, informed volunteer network that can assist in basic rescue response, feeding routines, hygiene protocols, and adoption counselling. In order to solidify this network, we organize modular weekend workshops where participants learn animal handling, community mapping, and ethical engagement with local ecosystems.
